Carter and Sydney’s story began on the fields of Palma Ceia Little League in Tampa, FL after Katie
Weachter, one of Sydney’s now Maids of Honor, introduced them as mutual friends. They started out as
acquaintances, then friends, slowly became one of each other’s best friends, and then as awkward
teenagers do, figured out that they each might “like-like” each other. Carter finally got the gumption to
ask Sydney to be his girlfriend after Gasparilla on January 29, 2011.
Carter and Sydney attended Plant High School where they both continued playing the games they loved,
baseball and softball. Sydney, a grade ahead of Carter, graduated and headed to the University of
Florida to pursue a degree in Health Science. A year later, after many drives back and forth from
Gainesville to Tampa, Carter fulfilled a lifelong dream of being a Gator and entered UF to pursue a
Finance degree. Many coveted Gator gamedays, date functions, “Go Gators!”, and amazing college
memories later, Sydney headed to PA school at Nova Southeastern University Physician Assistant program in Ft.
Lauderdale, FL. Carter graduated with his master’s degree in Finance a year later and moved up to
Atlanta, GA to begin his career in Corporate and Investment Banking at Regions Securities.
After another year of many flights between Ft. Lauderdale and Atlanta, the pandemic hit the world.
Carter came back to Tampa for his Dad’s birthday on March 18th, 2020 and was planning to be home for
a week or so. He stayed until 2021…Sorry Mom and Dad! Sydney finished up PA school in
unprecedented times in both remote and front-line settings and passed her licensing exam to become
an official PA-C in September. Carter and Sydney finally found a home in Atlanta at the very beginning of
2021 and currently reside in Atlanta together.
2020 was a year they will never forget. They mourn the loss of those who passed before their time,
sincerely thank the countless individuals who stepped up to keep this country running amid chaos and
have immense gratitude for family and friends who uplifted each other in such a crazy time. While it is
so easy to look at the negatives, Carter still laments about the common but powerful phrase Sydney has
made one of the mantras of their relationship when thinking about the year: “Everything happens for a
reason.” Amidst the pandemic, Sydney and Carter found unparalleled happiness in conquering PA
school, celebrating the official end of being in different cities, traveling to new and unexpected places,
finding fun ways to spend time with each other in a completely shut down world, getting engaged in a
place they call paradise, planning the wedding of their dreams, creating new hobbies together and most
importantly, getting to spend months of unexpected quality time with their friends and families. This year
has taught Sydney and Carter a lot as they continue to grow together, but they hope to profoundly
never forget the lesson 2020 brought to them: there is nothing greater than celebrating the intangible
value of genuine quality time with the people most important to you.
We cannot wait to keep that theme alive in 2021 at Crane Cottage in Jekyll Island, celebrating with each one of you whom we would
not be here today without. Cheers to traveling with us to a very magical and beautiful place, and to
turning our unforgettable wedding weekend into a lifetime together.
